TotalEnergies Signs Carbonate Research Partnership Agreement with CNPC

TotalEnergies announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) for the research and development of the Albion carbonate project, marking a major milestone in the technical cooperation between the two energy giants.

The signing ceremony was attended and addressed, virtually or in-person, by Marie-Noëlle Semeria, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of TotalEnergies, Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President, Renewables at TotalEnergies, William Zhao, Country Chair of TotalEnergies China, and Jiao Fangzheng Vice President of CNPC.

The R&D project will extend the findings of a comprehensive study of carbonate reservoirs in the Albion plateau in Southern France to empower the efficient exploration and development of carbonate reservoirs in the Middle East and other regions of the world, boosting the value of relevant assets for both TotalEnergies and CNPC.

TotalEnergies and CNPC also vowed to conduct extensive knowledge exchanges and cooperation in additional fields such as energy conservation, emissions reduction, low-carbon development, carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS), as well as new energy innovations, as part of their joint efforts to address the changes and challenges in the energy and chemical industries.
