Total Joins CFPA in Donating a Disaster Relief Classroom on Campus
Zhangjiakou, November 27, 2019 - Total China today commemorated the 10th anniversary of Total Road Safety Training (RST) Camp, an event designed to raise road safety awareness. In the training session at the Shu’erwan Primary School in Zhangbei county, Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, Total China joined China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) in donating a disaster alleviation classroom to the primary school. Representatives from Total China, CFPA, China National Textile and Apparel Council and officials from Zhangbei County Party Committee and County Government attended the event. The completion of the construction of the classroom wrapped up the 2019 Total RST Camp.
Commenting at the donation ceremony, Chairman of Total China William Zhao said that safety is a core value of Total and a cornerstone that underpins the development of the group.
“We not only adhere to safety principles in work but also hope to spread the culture of safety to all the regions in which we operate our business,” Zhao said. “The Road Safety Training Camp program has been running for 10 consecutive years, teaching children about safety and helping them to put those concepts into practice.”
Zhao said that the Campus Disaster Alleviation Classroom initiative launched by CFPA will help improve teachers’ capacity to educate students about the importance of safety and allow children to better grasp useful emergency protection skills.
“These goals coincide with the safety education concept Total has been long advocating,” he said. “We complement each other with our advantages and together lay the groundwork to help these children enjoy a wonderful life.”
Deputy Secretary-General of CFPA Ding Yadong said that the foundation is responsible for supporting disaster alleviation and providing poverty relief.
“We have been adhering to our mission and continuing to make progress in respects of practice, exploration, and innovation,” Ding said. “Our poverty relief projects have received continuous support from many companies such as Total China. We are focused on the current status of impoverished areas and we’re working together to build a better future.”
In order to improve the understanding of safety at the local school, the disaster alleviation classroom is a physical interaction platform consisting of four major functions: education, display, games, and experience. The result is a relaxed, immersive learning space for children that will further improve safety education as well as the campus safety administration capabilities.
Since its launch in 2010, the Total Road Safety Training Camp program has been held in 17 cities, holding over 170 road safety knowledge training sessions for nearly 15,000 children. The public welfare program was rolled out to six primary schools in Beijing, Tianjin, Zhenjiang, Shanghai, Wuhan and Guangzhou in 2019.
Total China has been protecting children whole-heartedly for a decade through the program. The company will continue to adhere to the concept of engaging in local community and joining forces with like-minded organizations to drive the development of children’s safety education.
