From March 21 to 22, 2026, Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, attended the China Development Forum in Beijing. This marked his 11th consecutive participation in the forum, fully demonstrating his strong focus on and commitment to the Chinese market. Under the theme of “China’s 15th Five-Year Plan: High-Quality Development and New Opportunities for Global Cooperation,” this year’s forum focused on China’s development trajectory and opportunities for international collaboration.
During the forum, Mr. Pouyanné gave a joint interview to CGTN and CCTV‑2. He noted that China and Europe share highly aligned energy strategies, both moving toward greener energy systems as a way to enhance security of supply; He also reiterated that energy transition must pursue a balanced approach among Sustainability, Reliability and Affordability of energy. “From this perspective, I will continue to advocate for stronger cooperation between Europe and China,” he said.
During his visit, Mr. Pouyanné held a series of high-level meetings in Beijing with key strategic partners, including Dr. Dai Houliang, Chairman of CNPC; Mr. Zhang Chuanjiang, Chairman of CNOOC; Mr. Hou Qijun, Chairman of Sinopec; and Mr. Wang Yuetao, Chairman of ZhenHua Oil. Discussions covered the evolving global energy landscape, major joint projects, and future avenues for cooperation.
Mr. Pouyanné highlighted that TotalEnergies has forged long-standing, solid, and mutually rewarding partnerships with China’s major state-owned enterprises and leading energy companies. At a time of increasing uncertainty in global energy markets, strengthening these partnerships is more essential than ever. TotalEnergies remains committed to broadening cooperation across multiple sectors and contributing more significantly to China’s low‑carbon transition and high-quality development. In response to recent geopolitical tensions and market volatility, Mr. Pouyanné also reaffirmed that TotalEnergies will strictly honor its contractual obligations, will not invoke force majeure to avoid deliveries, and will make every effort to ensure stable energy supply.
In addition, Mr. Pouyanné delivered a speech at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, on the topic of “Sustainability and Energy Transition for the Oil and Gas Industry”. He engaged in in-depth discussions with students and professionals, sharing insights into TotalEnergies’ multi-energy transition strategy and its global cooperation practices.
